MiniCon 4!
August 25-27, 2006

MiniCon is the name of the annual 3 day gaming convention that Lisa and I host out of our home here in Salem. We had an excellent turn-out this year and plan to hold MiniCon 5 in February 2007. The only two new games that I played at Mini 4 were Buccaneer and 10 Days in the USA on Friday.

MiniCon 4 was a blast to host and our house was full except on Sunday due to some folks' personal matters or prior plans. We want to thank all of our guests who joined us for some gaming and for helping make this event better all the time! Thanks to Scott Robinson, Ken Lawrence, Seana Miller, Dan Granquist, Cathie Arciz, Nate Jokel, Quentin Hall, Tony Sorrentino, Rick Goodman, Eric Yanofsky, Todd Hadley and Chris the knitter.

Highlights of MiniCon 4!

Friday.
Rick Goodman was the first guest to arrive and we started things off with a game of Buccaneer. This was one I have never tried before. I met Rick at Unity Games - XI on the prior Saturday when he sat in on a game design of mine in the prototype competition. The highlight of the night was the big Formula De tournament which was won by Eric Yanofsky who took home the gold medal. Second and third place went to Rick Goodman (silver medal) and Tony Sorrentino (bronze medal), respectively. The games I played this night were; Buccaneer, Hey! That's My Fish!, Tower of Babel, Formula De, High Society, Poison, 10 Days in the USA, Colossal Arena and Gargon (x2).

Saturday.
Great, great stuff played on Saturday, which was highlighted by the big 9 player Texas Hold'em poker tournament. The top 3 finishers of the tournament in order were; Dan Granquist, Ken Lawrence and Tony Sorrentino. I finished in the middle of the pack in 5th place. The games I played on Saturday were; Caesar & Cleopatra, Ra, Boomtown, Werewolves (x2), Texas Hold'em, Il Principe, Gracias and Vegas Showdown.

Sunday.
Unfortunately, we only got 3 games in on Sunday. We got up early on Sunday morning and played a nice 3 player game of Goa between me, Ken Lawrence and Scott Robinson. After the game Ken had to leave and Scott and I finished off the MiniCon weekend with games of Caesar & Cleopatra and Lost Cities.

Look for MiniCon 5 coming February 2007!
